Forklift tires do a lot more than just get your lift truck from point A to B. They help cushion the ride for your operators, offer traction in rough terrain and can have a significant impact on how fast and easily your lift is able to maneuver. There are many factors that affect the performance and life of your forklift tires including the environment, type of load, operating conditions and maintenance.

Shock Absorption
Professional forklift operators work long shifts, so a smooth ride is essential to their comfort and ability to perform their job. Forklifts with pneumatic tires are the best option for this because they absorb much of the shock from uneven ground. This leads to an easier ride and helps your operators come out of their shift feeling more refreshed and ready to work the next day.

Pneumatic forklift tires can also offer better traction for outdoor use in rough environments than other tire options because of their deeper tread designs. This is especially important if your operation deals with a large amount of debris like in recycling centers or lumber yards.
Solid or non-pneumatic tires (also known as stubby) are solid rubber rings that get pressed onto a metal rim. These forklift tires are less expensive than pneumatic tires and require very little maintenance. However, they tend to have poor traction and have a smaller turning radius.

Air-filled pneumatic forklift tires can have flats if they are punctured or their air pressure falls below the recommended level. For this reason, they should be regularly checked and maintained to ensure the correct air pressure is present. This will prevent an odd or premature wear pattern from developing on the tires.
